Creating A Great Technology Plan

Selecting The Best Internet Option For Your Business

When you depend on having an internet connection to operate your business, it is critical that you select a plan that will provide everything you need. There are a lot of differences in plans available, so choose carefully.

Stable Connection

The stability of the network is essential. If the internet is cutting in and out while you are trying to use it, you may find you are not able to get the work done that you need to. The loss of production can quickly turn into a loss of income for you and the business. If you are having problems with stability and dropped connections, call your provider and have them check the connection and equipment for you. Some issues that can affect the stability are local issues, but if you are the only one using the connection, you are not very likely overloading it.

Internet and Network Speeds

For businesses that transfer a lot of information over the internet, a connection with plenty of speed is essential. With so many companies offering Gigabyte (connection with over 1000mps transfer speed) connections, speed should never be an issue. Most of the major internet service providers have fiber optic line and high-speed connection available unless you are in a very remote location.

Data Caps and Limitations

Be sure to ask about data caps when you order your internet service. Some companies will limit the amount of data you can use for a month; then they will bill you for the overage. Data caps are an old idea, and with the current technology and level of internet usage of the average person, you should not have a cap on your use. If the ISP is still capping data, see if you can find another ISP to work with. You can sometimes move to a higher package to get out from under the cap, but that typically means paying a higher bill every month.

Technical Support

With business class internet connections, you should expect that you have good tech support from the ISP. The typical wait times of an hour on the phone to get help should never be the case if you are operating a business. When you need help, you need it right away. Most internet providers offer some form of expedited tech support for business customers. If you are on a standard package and running your business from it, you will not have that same level of support. Upgrading to a business connection can make a huge difference in the service and the reliability of the network.
